Objects of my desire

Bom-dia, queridos amigos! Que tal 2011? Muito diferente do ano passado? :-)

Quero partilhar convosco a minha recente obsessão por estas peças decorativas - o cor-de-rosa e o dourado andam na minha cabeça já há uns tempos e, como ando aqui a engendrar a decoração de uma mesa romântica de S. Valentim, fiquei apaixonada por estes pratos de bolos e pelos suportes para flores que, depois de dourados, funcionam maravilhosamente como marcadores. Já juntei uns quantos e espero que aquilo que ando a planear funcione!

Claro que, como sempre, gosto de ouvir as vossas opiniões. Por isso, partilhem-nas, digam de vossa justiça - o que gostam de ver numa mesa, que ideias têm para uma decoração com doces (e não só), enfim, falem comigo que eu gosto de vos ouvir! :-)

Hi, my lovely friends! How's 2011 going for you? Very different from last year? :-)

Well, today I'm sharing with you some of my recent obsessions. These are table decoration items and the colors pink and gold have been in my mind for a while now, so these cake-stands and golden flower frogs are two of the things that I have been craving, as I'm imagining a Valentine's Day table decoration... I've gathered a few, so I hope to get my plans right.

I would love to hear your opinion, as usual - tell me what you think in terms of table styling, share your thoughts with me, they don't have to concern sweet tables exclusively, just table decoration tips in general. Talk to me, I love to hear you! :-)

Chegada a casa. As meninas para deitar. A cabeça a andar à roda - quero começar a montar a mesa de Natal para assentar ideias, que isto do cansaço não ajuda em nada e eu gosto de tanta coisa que nem sei o que fazer!!

Sunday - cake saga goes on! We actually made these cookies yesterday, but only today had the light to take some pictures. The idea and recipe are Martha Stewart's (well, who else?) and we are enjoying it a lot! Now we're trying to cover them with icing - don't know if it will work out or not!

Saturday cake fever

Olá a todos! 

Hoje é Sábado e é dia de bolos! Eu e a Carlota começamos com esta tarte de amêndoa e vamos avançar para uns bolinhos de Natal, que espero que fiquem bem. O meu forno está avariado, por isso só sei qual a posição da grelha e da temperatura por instinto - às vezes não corre lá muito bem!

Hi everyone!

Today is Saturday and it's cake day! Here are some pictures of the almond pie that I did with Carlota 's help. We're now heading off for some Christmas cookies, I hope the recipe works out - my oven is broken, so I use it by instinct, which isn't so great sometimes.

If you want the recipe, please tell me. I can assure you it's delicious - it's a traditional pie in Portugal and it's truly appreciated around here!

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...

Christmas is coming... e é nisto que tenho andado a pensar! Adoro o brilho do Natal e é realmente uma época em que há tantas possibilidades de decoração que se torna difícil escolher aquela de que mais gostamos.

Quais são as cores que mais gostam nas decorações de Natal? O tradicional verde e vermelho? Preferem os ambientes mais vintage? Ou os modernos?

Adorava ouvir a vossa opinião!

Christmas is coming... and that's what I've been thinking about lately! I love the sparkle of Christmas and there are always so many decoration options that it's hard to choose the one we love the most.

What are your favorite colors for Christmas decor? Traditional red and green? Do you prefer vintage  decorations or modern ones?

My birthday dessert table

Esta é a mesa de sobremesas que fiz para os meus anos. Depois do meu carro ter avariado, quase desistir do sítio onde fiz a festa, ter perdido a máquina fotográfica no meio de tantos caixotes, dos enfeites do tecto cairem ao fim de alguns minutos e da toalha ficar manchada de ferrugem assim que a comecei a passar a ferro, este foi o resultado final. :-) Ou melhor, provisório, pois a mesa ainda não estava completa - faltavam  ainda alguns doces, que só consegui ir buscar mais tarde! À noite os pés doíam-me de ter estado tanto tempo em pé a preparar a decoração do espaço, mas valeu a pena. 

Sempre adorei as cores verde e lilás - lilás é uma cor presente na decoração de minha casa já há muitos anos. É uma cor que, para mim, representa as tonalidades das uvas, do Outono, da época do meu aniversário. E gosto da conjugação do verde com as variantes de roxo, daí ter optado por essa cor nas flores que escolhi - as hidranjas, uma das minhas preferidas. E, como é a mesa do meu aniversário, quis dar-lhe um toque pessoal, adicionando algumas peças decoração de que mais gosto e que fazem parte da minha pequena colecção de milk glass.

Aos meus irmãos e marido agradeço, do fundo do coração, toda a ajuda que me deram. Aos meus queridos amigos, agradeço a presença e alegria. Sem vós, nada disto faria teria sido possível ou faria sentido.

À Francisca, que fez os deliciosos bolos e cupcakes, o meu obrigada por saber reproduzir e interpretar tão bem as minhas ideias.

This is the dessert table that I did for my birthday. My car broke down, I lost my camera in the middle of the boxes, the ceiling decorations started falling apart a few minutes after I hanged  them and the iron stained the tablecloth - so this is the final result! :-) Not the final one, actually, as by the time the photos were taken, some sweets were still on their way to the venue. In the evening, my feet were killing me, as I spent almost 10 hours having the whole place decorated - unfortunately, I don't have pictures of the other decoration details.

I have always loved green and lilac - lilac is a color that is part of my home decor for many years now. I wanted to give the table a little touch of Autumn, the season of my birthday. Otherwise, it would be a flowery Spring table, so that was the reason why I chose my favorite flowers - hydrangeas - in lilac and purple. And because this was my birthday table, I decided to give it another personal touch by adding some of the vintage milk glass vases that belong to my small collection. 

I have to thank my sister and brother as well as my husband for all their help. I also thank Francisca, who did the cakes and cupcakes, for interpreting and turning my ideas into reality. My friends, who had the time to be there with me, thank you so much.

Well, this is my imagination. I hope you like it!

Sweet lilac

Hoje faço 40 anos. Completo 40 primaveras, ou 40 outonos, no caso. Decidi fazer uma mesa de doces em tons de verde e lilás, duas das minhas cores favoritas desde sempre... Também quis acrescentar alguns detalhes vintage, pois eu própria já começo a ser uma antiguidade! :-)

Ainda não tenho as fotos que foram tiradas à luz do dia, até porque perdi a minha máquina fotográfica e muitos pormenores de decoração ficaram por retratar. Por isso, deixo aqui ficar algumas imagens da mesa, que espero que gostem.

 

Today is my 40th birthday. I decided to make my birthday party in lilac and green tones, two of my favorite colors. I also decided to add some vintage details as I myself am becoming a vintage item! :-)


I still don't have the photos that were taken in the day light, as I lost my camera and some other decoration details weren't portraied. So I leave you with these two photos, while I wait for brighter and better ones to publish here. Hope you like them.

Este fim-de-semana vou começar a montar a mesa de doces dos meus anos em minha casa, para depois a poder fazer no dia o mais rapidamente possível. Ainda faltam bastantes coisas, por isso preciso mesmo de ver como ficam as peças em cima da mesa, para não ter de perder muito tempo à última da hora.

This weekend I'll be setting my birthday table at home, so that everythings works out and I don't have any drawbacks at the end.

Olá! Espero que estejam a ter um óptimo Sábado. Hoje aproveitei para tirar umas fotos de algumas peças que estou a juntar para o meu aniversário. Ainda falta definir muita coisa e tenho andado com pouca motivação... Será o cair da folha do Outono ou são mesmo os 40 anos a aproximarem-se? :-)

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful Saturday! Today I'm showing you some pictures of the things I have been gathering for my birthday party. There's still a long way to go and I haven't been feeling really motivated... maybe it's because of the arrival of Autumn or maybe it's just because I'm turning 40! :-)

A Ashley Meaders faz coisas mesmo lindas! Designer, stylist e crafter, esta organizadora de casamentos da Georgia tem um site giríssimo e faz coisas lindas de morrer para festas de casamento. Não, não me vou casar outra vez!! Mas, como adoro decorações de tecto, quis mostrar-vos esta, que chamou a minha atenção (e, já agora, que gostava de ter) - e acho que pode utilizar-se noutras festas que não apenas casamentos.

Quem me quer fazer umas florzinhas destas? Não conheço quem faça disto por cá, e eu gostava de ter destas mãos de oiro!... :-)

Ashley Meaders makes beautiful things. This designer, stylist, crafter and event planner from Georgia does really amazing wedding stuff that you can see on her wonderful site. No, I'm not getting married again!!It's just that I love ceiling decorations and these flowers caught my eye, so I wanted to share it with you.  I also think that we can have a centerpiece like this in other parties besides weddings. 

I wish I had fairy hands and do such beautiful things... Does anyone know how to do it? :-) 

Candle in the wind

Olá a todos! É fim-de-semana e adoro estar em casa, com mais algum tempo para ler e procurar imagens de coisas de que gosto e que me inspiram. Ultimamente, concentro as minhas poucas horas à procura de ideias para a festa dos meus anos e ando às voltas com tanta coisa linda que me passa pela cabeça e a sua adaptação à realidade: o espaço, a logística, os materiais, enfim, uma série de coisas que temos que planear para que no dia não falte nada!

Por isso, hoje deixo-vos com umas imagens de um elemento decorativo que adoro e que acho que faz toda a diferença nos eventos feitos à noite: iluminação com velas. Aqui estão algumas de que gostei.

E vocês, também usam velas nas decorações de festas?

Wedding Chicks

Hi everyone! It's weekend and I'm happy at home, having a little extra time for researching and reading and also looking for inspirational images. Lately, I spend my free time searching for ideas for my birthday party, as so many things are going through my mind and I have to put them into practise: I need to adapt those ideas to the space, plan all the details, look out for tableware and other bits and pieces...

So today I leave with with these images of candles, which are a decoration item that I really like for night events. 

And what about you? Do you use candles for your parties as well?

Here are some of the photos of the table that I created for my niece's birthday. They are twins, although Clara is blonde and blue eyed and Teresa has brown eyes and hair! They are sitting on the cake, beautifully made by Francisca!

It's my party!

Aqui ficam alguns pormenores da mesa dos 7 anos das minhas sobrinhas, e que tanto gosto me deu a fazer. São fotografias tiradas do telemóvel, pelo que a qualidade deixa muito a desejar... A jarra de flores também não está como eu queria, mas foi feita a correr, pois os convidados já estavam a chegar! :-) Mas é assim que se aprende a melhorar, depois de ver o trabalho feito e, principalmente, depois de ver as fotos. Tenho de aguardar pelas restantes... Até já!

Just a few details of the table that I did for my niece's birthday. These photos were taken with my cell phone, so their quality is not so good... the vase with the flowers isn't as I wished as well, but I had to make it in a hurry, as the guests were arriving!... :-) But this is how you improve, learning how to plan in advance and looking at the photos - that's when you can see if things work out or not. Well, I have to wait for the other photos!... See you soon!
