Another week is over...

E assim terminam as férias, sem tempo para nada (blog incluído), mas com algumas coisas tratadas (uff!). Aqui fica um resumo da minha semana, em fotos: o estrado do jardim está pintado de branco, tal como há muito tempo queria (não ficou exactamente como eu gostaria, mas isso arranja-se noutra altura) e a sala continua em renovações - vai entrar um aparador novo, muito giro (eu depois mostro fotos). Ultimamente, apetece-me o cor-de-rosa na decoração, por isso tenho incorporado alguns elementos cá em casa - e quero uma toalha-de-mesa rosa claro com bolas brancas! :).

Comprei uma pechincha na Casa - aquele pratinho e taça turquesas (as flores também são de lá) - adoro o padrão e a cor (e o preço, já agora! ;)).

Em baixo mostro-vos também algumas fotos do lanche que preparamos hoje para as amigas que a Carlota convidou para passarem a tarde cá em casa....

No meio deste calor, estas foram algumas das coisas que fiz durante as mini-férias. E a vossa semana, como foi? Sol, praia e mar? 

And my small vacations are over, with hardly any time to do most of the things I wished (blog included), but with some issues finally solved (uff!). Here's a little resume of my week in photos: we had the back porch floor painted in white, something that I've been wanting for a long time. It's not perfect, but I'll have it done one of these days. I'm still renovating the living-room - we bought a new beautiful console, I'll show you some pictures as soon as it arrives. Lately I love pink details in decor, so I've been incorporating some in our home. Right now, I'm obsessing with Cath Kidston pink polka dot tablecloth, I have to have one! :)

I bought the turquoise dish and bowl in a very cheap store here at Porto, I really like the pattern and color! The silk lilac flowers were bought in the same store. 

I am also showing you some photos of the little luncheon we did for Carlota's friends - she invited them over to play with her in the garden, the weather's been so hot around here, so we assembled the plastic swimming-pool and they really had a great time together!

Well, this was my week - time runs so fast, I can't believe I'm back to work tomorrow!... What about your week? What did you do?

Cupcake delight

Já é noite. A esta altura do dia dá-me sempre fome, e só penso em coisas doces. Com o aproximar do aniversário da Carlota, então é que só penso mesmo em bolos, bolos, bolos... E foi por isso que quis-vos falar uma vez mais nos maravilhosos bolos da Cupcake. São tantos, e tão bonitos, que é difícil escolher as fotografias. A Francisca é uma artista, uma profissional - as receitas são deliciosas (mesmo) e variadas (experimentem os cupcakes dela e vão perceber...) e a técnica que domina na perfeição fazem dela uma hábil cake designer - sendo os meus preferidos os bolos com motivos florais e os de casamento. :) Fico feliz com o seu sucesso, pois é um prazer ver alguém trabalhar tão bem e naquilo de que realmente gosta!

Vejam estas preciosidades que não estão publicadas no site (penso que alguns estão na página do Facebook da Cupcake - já fizeram like, btw?). Fico horas a olhar para eles... que mesa não brilha com uma preciosidade destas?

It's late in the evening. At this time of the day, I always get hungry. With sugar cravings. And with Carlota's birthday party coming, all I can think about is cakes, cakes and more cakes... So I decided to write about wonderful Cupcake once more. Francisca's cakes and cupcakes are absolutely delicious and her technique and professionalism never cease to amaze me. The recipes she uses are so yummy and with such a variety of flavours... She's a great cake designer and I'm so happy for her sucess! My favorite designs are florals and wedding cakes... :)

So I'm sharing some photos that aren't published on her site (I think some of them might be in Cupcake's Facebook page - have you already liked it, btw?). I stare at thes pictures for hours... what dessert table wouldn't shine with such beauties?

Tenho andado ausente do blog - são umas férias, bem precisas. Não consigo ter tempo disponível, ando com muito trabalho e as duas crianças ainda ocupam a nossa atenção quase a 100%. Quis deixar-vos hoje umas fotos que tirei, para me inspirar nas cores da festa de anos da Carlota, que é para o mês. Ainda não decidi o que vou fazer, nem que cores vou usar... Gostam destas? 

I've been away from the blog - it's a much needed vacations. I'm having lots of work lately and with 2 kids to take care of, it's really difficult to stop by and say hi. But here I am again, to share some photos that I took as a way to inspire myself in the choice of colors for Carlota's birthday part - it's taking place next month. I still haven't decide on what to do or what colors I'll be using... Do you like these?

Hoje venho falar-vos do livro da maravilhosa Holly Becker e da Joanna Copestick, o Decorate, que eu avidamente comprei mal saiu, pois estava mortinha para ver do que se tratava. E não defraudou as minhas expectativas - de fácil leitura, com óptimos conselhos, é um livro abrangente e com várias citações de profissionais da decoração de interiores (e não só) e que são absolutamente fantásticas. Muito do que li no livro tocou-me de uma forma particular, pois transmite na plenitude não só aquilo que sinto em relação a muitos dos aspectos da decoração, como também porque explica, de uma forma simples, alguns dos truques para embelezar uma casa. Vale mesmo a pena ler! As fotografias são fantásticas (Debi Treloar), os espaços maravilhosos (há para todos os gostos) e tem aquele toque inconfundível da Holly, que consegue cativar todos os leitores que a acompanham.

As frases com que me identifico são tantas que é impossível transcrevê-las a todas, por isso apenas deixo aqui algumas (para lerem o resto, têm mesmo de comprar o Decorate :)):

Hi everyone! Today I'm writing about wonderful Holly Becker and Joanna Copestick new and hopefully the first of many books, Decorate. I bought it as soon as it came out, as I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and read all the beautiful things that I knew it would have. And my expectations were fulfilled, as the book is amazing (I call it the Bible of decoration books :)), as so many things that I read are so meaningful to me and I have been learning a lot from it. The houses Holly shows us are amazing (you have all kinds of styles for all kinds of taste) and the tips and quotes they provide us are something that I really connect to. It's really worth reading, not just looking at the beautiful photos by Debi Treloar. And it has Holly's touch - I love the way she writes and captivates the readers.

The quotes and bits from the book that I love are so many that it's impossible to show you all of them - you really have to buy the book to read the rest! I leave you with just a few that meant a lot to me:

Ontem casou-se uma minha amiga de longa data, a Sónia, e eu ajudei-a, naquilo que pude, a concretizar as suas ideias. Ela queria uma festa em tons de verde e com apontamentos em castanho, e branco de base. Com uma equipa convocada pela noiva, montamos as flores que serviram de adereço aos guardanapos e os pom-pons que penduramos no tecto - não imaginam o tempo que demoramos! A Sónia idealizou e tratou dos convites, marcadores de mesa, molduras e imagens, que usamos depois nos centros de mesa. Usei os doces da ementa para fazer a mesa das sobremesas, tentando coordenar as cores e o aspecto geral com a decoração envolvente.

A festa foi no restaurante da Praia da Luz e o tempo não podia ter estado melhor! O resultado final foi uma sala fresca, um ar de Verão, com a praia mesmo ao lado e o maravilhoso cheiro a maresia... Foi um dia fantástico e a noiva brilhou, como lhe é devido. Espero que sejam imensamente felizes.

Bolo: Cupcake

Yesterday a long time friend got married and I helped her with the wedding party decoration. The venue was in a restaurant here in Porto, on the beach, and I used Sonia's choice of colors: green with brown notes and white as the background tone. She did the invitations herself, as well as the place markers and the frames and pictures we used on the centerpieces. With the help of our friends, we assembled the paper flowers and poms - you can't hardly imagine how long it took us! I used the desserts that were part of the menu and tried to coordinate the colors and overall look with the rest of the decor.

I think the final result was a light room, with a summery feeling - the smell of the sea coming from the beach added an extra flair to the scene... The weather was great and the bride looked wonderful, as she should. And I hope they live happily ever after.

Chocolate cake

E lá fiz eu outro bolinho - a receita é a mesma e este bolo fica sempre muito bom. Diziam que ía chover mas, afinal, esteve bom este fim-de-semana. Fiquei mesmo contente! E mais contente estou porque, provavelmente, vou poder remodelar a minha sala e ter mais espaço para as minhas coisas... :)

And I baked another cake. This recipe always comes out good. They said it was going to rain the whole weekend, but the weather's been nice after all. And that made me really happy! But what makes me even happier is that I might do some changes at my living room and finally get room enough for my little things... :)

Tirei estas fotos hoje de manhã, ainda meio sol, meio chuva. Mas quis fixar na memória as flores, a Primavera, e as coisas de que gosto tanto. Estas flores são recentes, vêm do horto super adubadas. Vamos ver como se porta a natureza e como crescerão...

These are some photos that I took this morning, trying to capture the beauty in my garden while the sun and the rain were trying to show up once at a time. I love spring flowers and nature and I want to remember how my garden looked like when I see these in pictures in the future. Some of these flowers came from the garden shop recently, so they are super fertilized - I just want to see how will nature behave and how they'll grow...

Encontrei-as ontem na rua, nuns montinhos ao pé do passeio. Lá consegui trazer algumas, com a ajuda da Carlota, as duas felizes. Ainda trouxemos um pé, a ver se pega mas, como são flores selvagens, não tenho muita esperança. Lindas, lindas!

I found them on a small piece of land, in the street. Me and Carlota managed to bring a few, happy that we also brought a couple of them to plant - don't know if't it's going to work out, as they are wild flowers. They are so beautiful and fragile...

Wall decoration + Beautiful Ninainvorm

Fim-de-semana a chover não está com nada mas, enfim, reclamar do tempo é daquelas coisas que não vale mesmo a pena - não o podemos mudar! :)

Hoje falo-vos de decoração de paredes - não papel-de-parede, mas antes de quadros, pratos, etc. Eu não tenho qualquer formação em design, arquitectura ou decoração. Zero. Tudo é baseado em instinto e muita imagem que passa pelos meus olhos - e, claro, um gosto inato pelas coisas bonitas desta vida. Mas muitas vezes penso que gostaria de aprender algo mais. A noção do espaço, o equilíbrio entre as peças, o aproveitamento da casa, um sem número de coisas que a decoração de interiores abranje e que, a mim, me desperta imensa curiosidade. Daí que, ao longo destes anos, tenha feito (e ainda faço) muitos erros em termos decorativos, muita aprendizagem pelas tentativas, remodelações e mudanças. E, se pudesse, não pararia por aqui, pois adoro mobilar e (re)decorar a minha casa! Há sempre algo mais que pode ser feito! (Acho que este é um problema muito comum entre as mulheres! :)) Daí que, dentro desta coisa fantástica que é a decoração, as paredes sejam um dos meus calcanhares de aquiles - tenho sempre alguma dificuldade, ou melhor, indecisão, quando toca à decoração das paredes. Não quando falamos de papéis, aí acho que sei escolher. Agora quadros, é um dilema! E que moldura? Branca? Preta? Madeira? Moldura com linhas rectas? Ou arredondadas? Mas a cor combina com a gravura? E o conjunto? Penduro mais acima? Ficará bem naquela parede? Os pratos? Opto pela mesma cor de base? Ou misturo tudo? Eu sei lá, só sei que demoro dias, semanas até fazer alguma coisa!

Então se as minhas queridas leitoras e leitores me pudessem dar umas dicas de decoração de parede - links, revistas, etc. - esta vossa amiga ficaria eternamente grata.

Mostro-vos o meu pratinho novo da Ninainvorm (mais um daqueles namoros prolongados) - este sei onde o vou pendurar! :) As cerâmicas pintadas pela Nina são lindas de morrer, vejo-as e revejo-as vezes sem conta... Até o toque das bandeirolas tem a ver comigo! ;)

I read the old ones once more

It's raining this weekend, but the weather is one of those things we mustn't complain: the fact that we do doesn't change it, does it? So we might as well go ahead and think (and do) other things! :)

Today I'm writting about wall decor - not wallpaper, but paintings, plates, etc. I have zero education in terms of design, arquitecture or decoration. All I do is by instinct and the thousands of images that I see along the way. And also because I love to be surrounded by beautiful things. So I've made lots of mistakes in terms of decor (I still do), I've changed my place about 2 million times now, I've tried and failed and learned in the process. If I could, I'd keep on changing my small house, there's still so many things I could do here! But I guess that changing our homes all the time is a woman's thing, right? :) Sometimes I think I should learn more about interior decoration: the spacial notion, equilibrium, things that work and things that don't, all of that is part of the decoration process and isn't as intuitive as one might think. So when it comes to wall decor, I take weeks before I do something - what kind of frame should I use? In white? Black? Wood? Sharp edges? Round edges? Should I hang it higher or lower? And the plates? The same colour basis? Mix different styles?

That being said, if my lovely readers can provide me some information - links, books, etc. - on wall decor, yours truly would be very pleased! :)

I'm also showing you my new Ninainvorm plate - one of those long woo - but this one I know where to hang! :) Nina's work is amazing, I keep seeing her ceramics from time to time, just to please my eyes! Even the garland detail in this plate has to do with me! :)

Olá a todos! Espero que tenham tido uma boa semana, a minha foi o normal, carregadinha de trabalho e com pouco tempo para os meus pequenos prazeres, mas sempre a pensar em coisas bonitas! Já fiz o sorteio da vencedora do poster e a Claire Donovan, do Heart Handmade Uk vai receber este poster e uma pequena lembrança! Espero que goste! Para quem não conhece o blog dela, espreitem, por favor, acho que vão adorar!

E hoje venho falar-vos de uma paixão recorrente e que teima em reaparecer com força, de vez em quando: o estilo de decoração campestre, ou country style. Adoro! Adoro a natureza, jardins, flores, a vida no campo que a minha imaginação romântica idealiza... Casas com um pormenor rústico, british (os ingleses são fabulosos neste estilo) ou campestre dão-me sempre uma sensação de maior conforto. A decoração estilo campagne française é igualmente lindíssima, com um requinte que me lembra sempre os tempos da Maria Antonieta - aqueles linhos são de morrer! Eu confesso que tenho alguma dificuldade em definir um estilo de decoração que mais goste - gosto de tantos! Mas acho que uma casa só tem vida se a decorarmos com peças que tenham uso - pelo menos algumas. Senão, fica a parecer um museu...

Hi everyone! Hope you've had a wonderful week! Mine was busy as usual, with little time to my hobbies, but with beautiful things always on my mind!... I already have the give away winner, and Claire Donovan, from Heart Handmade Uk is the lucky one! She's receiving her new print along with a little beautiful thing, I really hope she likes them! And today I'm writting about a known passion of mine, that insists on coming to the surface once and again. I'm talking about my love for country style decoration, which I absolutely adore! I love nature, gardens, flowers, the country life that my romantic imagination takes me to... And I find it cosier when a home has a rustic touch or british details (yeah, I know they are the best in this decoration style). But I also love the campagne française style, so refined, it always reminds me of Marie Antoinette - I die for french linens!

It's hard for me to define the decoration style that I like the most, as I love so many different eras and things. But what I think is that we should have beautiful used items at home, so that it feels alive and not like a museum.
