Carlota's birthday party + sweet Amy Atlas

A Carlota fez 9 anos no Sábado. São 9 anos de felicidade e de um sentimento de amor inexplicável! Andei meses com ideias na cabeça mas, com o cansaço, mudava de planos constantemente, não conseguia concentrar-me ou visualizar nada em concreto... Já no próprio dia, e depois de ter quase tudo montado, decidi mudar à última da hora e não incorporar os azuis ou verdes que inicialmente tinha planeado. Queria era o coral, as cores de rebuçado, de Verão, femininas e delicadas, tal como a Carlota. Estava apaixonada por peónias em rosa coral e, como sabia que nesta altura do ano não as arranjava (aliás, aqui no Porto nem sei onde se vendem, se é que as vendem), pedi à Diane da DK Design para me fazer um bouquet que incorporasse 3 das minhas flores favoritas - peónias, papoilas e ranunculos - e nas cores em que pensava - rosa coral, cor-de-pêssego e branco. A Francisca da Cupcake uma vez mais superou as minhas expectativas (aqueles cupcakes com as papoilas em pasta de açúcar são uma obra de arte!) e, inspirada na Hello Naomi, pedi-lhe para me fazer um bolo feminino e doce. Tudo perfeito - cupcakes de côco e o meu bolo favorito, de amêndoa com ovos moles!

Vi as mesas da Amy Atlas aí umas 1.000 vezes. São maravilhosas de tão criativas, perfeitas, equilibradas - vão sempre mais além! E, querida como sempre, publicou hoje no seu blog as fotos que lhe enviei. Sou a sua fã nº 1, não vejo a hora do seu livro ser publicado!

Carlota turned 9 last Saturday. It's been 9 years of total happiness and of an amazing love! I've been thinking of this party theme or color palette for the last couple of months but, being tired as I am, I couldn't decide on anything in particular. I would change my mind on a daily basis and I couldn't imagine how it might look in the end... After having everything set, I decided to change the colors at the last minute, and droped the green and blues that I had iniatially thought of. I knew I wanted coral, candy colors, feminine and delicate as Carlota. I was in love with coral peonies for a long time, and as I knew I couldn't find them at this time of year (I couldn't find them in any other color here at Porto, let me tell you), I decided to as Diane of DK Design to make me a flower arrangement that included 3 of my favorite flowers: peonies, poppies and ranunculus - in the 3 colors that I wanted to incorporate: coral pink, peach and white. Francisca of Cupcake amazed me once again with the beautiful poppies cupcakes and she recreated perfectly the Hello Naomi inspired cake that I asked her to make. She and Diane are absolutely great!


I saw Amy Atlas dessert tables about a 1.000 times. Her styling is impecable, super creative, balanced - she's amazing! And she featured the photos that I sent her on her lovely blog (here). I can't wait for her book to be released, I'm her number 1 fan!

Flower blog and some beautiful fabrics

Olá, queridos amigos! Espero encontrar-vos bem! Por estes dias estou a finalizar os últimos preparativos  para o aniversário da Carlota, brevemente vou postar algumas fotos. Por favor, não esperem nada de fantasticamente espectacular, que esta vossa amiga anda exausta que não se aguenta, por isso as ideias são muitas, mas pô-las em prática já é outra loiça...

Estas flores chegaram hoje e vão ajudar a embelezar a casa no dia de festa (e não só). Eu sei que devem estar fartos de ver flores aqui no blog nos últimos dias, mas sendo elas um dos principais motores da minha inspiração, apelo à vossa compreensão... ;) São peónias de seda - a cor é bem diferente daquilo que eu estava à espera, e que era um rosa muito clarinho, quase branco - mas são bonitas na mesma, por isso decidi mostrar-vos. Estão no hall de entrada - no photos, no light today.

Em baixo estão uns padrões de tecidos lindos que encontrei no Pinterest e que são da Bennison Fabrics - maravilhosos! Como não podia deixar de ser, o tema são as flores, ou não fosse este um blog florido!...;)

Em que é que utilizariam estes tecidos? Almofadas? Cortinados?

 

Hello, my dear friends! Hope you're doing well! I'm preparing Carlota's birthday party, which is taking place this next Saturday, and I promise I'll show you some photos soon. Please do not have high expectations, as this time I'm really tired and it's hard  for me to keep track of it all.

These silk peonies arrived today and they will add a nice touch to  my home decor, not only for the day of the party. You must be fed up with the last posts - I only write about flowers, but they're one of my most important source of inspiration... As for these peonies, well, I was expecting a much lighter shade of pink, actually, but I like them all the same... I have them in a white milk glass vase, in the entrance hall - no photos this time, no light today.

And then I'm showing you some fabric's patterns that I found through Pinterest - they're from Bennison Fabrics and they are amazing! They had to have floral motives but hey, this is a floral blog! ;)

What would you use these fabrics for? Cushions? Drapes?

Pink at home

Esta semana comprei este tabuleiro, que há muito tempo namorava - era um pouco caro, por isso esperei pelos saldos. Tenho o tamanho maior e adoro usá-lo como prato de queijos. Gosto do seu ar marroquino e a conjugação dos rosas com o prateado é das minhas favoritas. Uso-o na mesa de apoio da sala, ao pé de algumas revistas, mas tenho que proteger as velas e as flores das mãozinhas da Concha - por isso ponho a redoma por cima, embora prefira vê-lo sem ela.

Gostam de usar tabuleiros para a decoração das vossas casas?

I bought this tray this week - I've been wanting to for a long time, but it was a bit expensive, so I waited for the sales. I have one like this in a bigger size and I love to use it as a cheese tray. I like these moroccan type of objects and pink with silver is one of my favorite color combo. I use it in the coffee table, with some magazines next to it, but I have to protect the candles and the flowers from Conchinha's little hands - so I use the glass dome, although I prefer to see it without it.

Do you like to use trays as decoration items in your homes as well?

Olá, meus queridos amigos! Espero que estejam a ter um bom dia. Eu estou aqui a escrever, literalmente rodeada pela Conchinha, que ainda não parou de fazer asneirinhas, por isso acreditem que escrever este post está a ser uma aventura! :)

Só umas fotos que tirei na confusão da minha sala (se vos mostrasse como está, assustavam-se!), pois por vezes preciso de ver as coisas antes de decidir o que quero fazer. E, desta vez, como ando cansada (quem não anda, mas ok), não consigo visualizar, decidir as cores, enfim, ter aqueles laivos de certeza que por vezes sinto e que me fazem saber logo o que quero.

Por isso, tenho andado em experiências - um dia quero uma coisa, no outro, outra, olhem, não sei bem o que quero! Sabem que mais? Há demasiada inspiração, é difícil gostarmos só de uma. Não concordam?

Hello, my dear friends! I hope you're having a good day. I'm here writting, literally surrounded by Conchinha, who's been messing around since she woke up, so believe me this is a hard working post! :)

I'm showing you some photos that I took as another way of deciding the colours for Carlota's birthday party table. My living room is a mess (if you saw it, you'd get scared!), as sometimes I need to see things in advance before I decide if I like to see them in a certain way. This time I'm really mentally tired (who isnt't these days?), so I just can't make up my mind on what things to use at the party, what colour combination I like the most (there are too many, actually) - you know, sometimes we're sure about what we want, even without seeing it, other times it just seems that the brain doesn't work.

So this is why I've been experimenting - one day I want one thing, the other day I'm not so sure. You know what? There's too much inspiration around and it's really hard to stick to just one thing that we like - there are so many!! Don't you agree with me?

Olá, queridos amigos! Como foi o vosso fim-de-semana? O meu foi o menos produtivo possível: só mesmo tentar descansar e andar às voltas com o HTML do blogger, que é algo que eu adoro - fico sempre com a sensação de que não estou a fazer as coisas correctamente, pois a linguagem informática é algo que eu considero tudo menos inteligível... Tentei adicionar os botões do like na zona dos comentários, mas acho que não tive muito sucesso - ou o Facebook não está a funcionar, ou não segui os passos do tutorial correctamente, pois clica-se no like e, passado uns segundos, desaparece... Se alguém me conseguir ajudar, fico imensamente grata! Ai, quem me dera ter um web ou blog designer ou qualquer pessoa do género assim à mão de semear, que me fizesse tudo sem me obrigar a gastar os poucos neurónios que me restam! :) Como é que as minhas amigas bloggers dão a volta à coisa?

Actualização: acho que já está a funcionar...

Hi everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was quite unproductive: I just tried to get some rest and I've been dealing with blogger HTML issues - which is an activity that I really dislike, as I always get this  feeling that I'm doing something wrong... I tried to add Facebook like buttons next to the comments area, but either Facebook is having problems or I have missed some of the tutorial steps. If you click on like, it disapears after a second... Can somebody help me, I'd be really thankful! Oh God, how I wish I could have a web or blog designer or such a kind of person next to me, to help me whenever I need, without me having to go through all these tutorials in english, wasting my few neuronions left... :) How do my blogger friends overcome these issues?

Update: I think it's already working...

Sunday morning

Domingo de manhã e, apesar de me deitar tarde e das meninas ainda estarem a dormir, eu já não consigo descansar mais. Por isso, venho aqui aproveitar o tempo livre e escrever o meu o post semanal, dando-vos conta das minhas andanças, um pouco para além do Facebook, que acaba por ser o meu quick blog durante a semana...

Já vos tinha dito que tenho andando (uma vez mais, é certo) a redecorar o meu pequeno espaço. Desenganem-se aqueles que pensam que é mais rápido decorar uma casa pequena, pois a noção de espaço e de equilíbrio não é, pelo menos para mim, intuitiva. E por vezes cometemos erros, sendo certo também que mudamos os gostos, o que eu acho óptimo! Foi assim que, ao longo dos último anos, fui aprendendo algumas técnicas de ilusionismo decorativo e tento sempre aumentar este pequeno sítio com o recurso a muito branco, espelhos e móveis com as dimensões correctas. A minha sala tem mais luz e mais espaço. E tem um aparador novo. And that makes me happy!

Aqui nas fotos, grande destaque para o aparador - cheio de pratinhos e cake-stands lá dentro! :) Ontem não consegui muito mais do que isto, pois estavam cá 3 amigas da Carlota e eu tinha que lhes pedir constantemente para sairem da frente da objectiva. Não liguem muito para a decoração em cima do móvel, pois ainda não parei para pensar e decidir o que lá quero por. Para já, claro, pois gosto de ir variando...

 

 

 

Depois andei a experimentar as cores para a festa de aniversário da Carlota e continuo indecisa... Quem quiser dar a sua opinião, já sabe, é muito bem-vinda!

E finalmente mostro-vos o papel-de-parede vintage que comprei para forrar o hall de entrada. Espero que gostem dele tanto quanto eu. :)

Sunday morning and I can't sleep any longer, although I went to bed very late last night and the girls are still asleep. So I'm coming here in this free time for my weekly post, besides the Facebook page where I actually quick blog during the week...

I've already told you quite a few times that I am redecorating my living room, as I'm always looking for ways to give this small home the illusion of a bigger space. I've learned along the way that we always make mistakes in terms of decor and our taste changes - hopefully always for the better, as we get to see lots of beautiful houses and get inspired by it. Some of the decoration tricks that I've learned are pretty basic - such as mirrors for space and light reflection, lots of whites in small spaces and correct dimensions of furniture, as large pieces don't fit rightly in tiny rooms. I always have a problem with Ikea furniture, as I need made by measure more often, to try to take advantage of every little corner...

My living room seems bigger, has more light and a new sideboard. And that makes me happy! :)

Here in the photos, a great feature to the sideboard - full of plates and cake-stands on the inside! :) But these were the only pictures that I've managed to take, as Carlota had 3 of her friends sleeping over so I had to keep asking them to get away from the camera. Also the display isn't definite, as I still haven't thought much on how to decorate it. And I like to change things often, so no one knows how the sideboard will look on the next photos! 

I also experimented with colors for Carlota's birthdat party, I'm not still very sure on what to do. Opinions are more than welcome!

And finally I'm showing you the vintage wallpaper that I bought for my home entrance - I hope you like it as much as I do.

Another week is over...

E assim terminam as férias, sem tempo para nada (blog incluído), mas com algumas coisas tratadas (uff!). Aqui fica um resumo da minha semana, em fotos: o estrado do jardim está pintado de branco, tal como há muito tempo queria (não ficou exactamente como eu gostaria, mas isso arranja-se noutra altura) e a sala continua em renovações - vai entrar um aparador novo, muito giro (eu depois mostro fotos). Ultimamente, apetece-me o cor-de-rosa na decoração, por isso tenho incorporado alguns elementos cá em casa - e quero uma toalha-de-mesa rosa claro com bolas brancas! :).

Comprei uma pechincha na Casa - aquele pratinho e taça turquesas (as flores também são de lá) - adoro o padrão e a cor (e o preço, já agora! ;)).

Em baixo mostro-vos também algumas fotos do lanche que preparamos hoje para as amigas que a Carlota convidou para passarem a tarde cá em casa....

No meio deste calor, estas foram algumas das coisas que fiz durante as mini-férias. E a vossa semana, como foi? Sol, praia e mar? 

And my small vacations are over, with hardly any time to do most of the things I wished (blog included), but with some issues finally solved (uff!). Here's a little resume of my week in photos: we had the back porch floor painted in white, something that I've been wanting for a long time. It's not perfect, but I'll have it done one of these days. I'm still renovating the living-room - we bought a new beautiful console, I'll show you some pictures as soon as it arrives. Lately I love pink details in decor, so I've been incorporating some in our home. Right now, I'm obsessing with Cath Kidston pink polka dot tablecloth, I have to have one! :)

I bought the turquoise dish and bowl in a very cheap store here at Porto, I really like the pattern and color! The silk lilac flowers were bought in the same store. 

I am also showing you some photos of the little luncheon we did for Carlota's friends - she invited them over to play with her in the garden, the weather's been so hot around here, so we assembled the plastic swimming-pool and they really had a great time together!

Well, this was my week - time runs so fast, I can't believe I'm back to work tomorrow!... What about your week? What did you do?
